7 Secrets The Motorcycle Industry Will Never Tell You

Let's discuss the seven secrets the motorcycle industry will never tell you. For many people buying a motorcycle is a major purchase - sometimes an emotional purchase. It's essential that we understand what goes on and the true cost involved.

Today we are going to talk about 7 secrets the motorcycle industry will never tell you.  This is going to help you if you want to buy or sell a motorcycle and also to decide when. Of course there’s a bonus tip at the end of the video that will help you to get a better deal when you buy or sell a motorbike -- so stay till the end of the video.

This information is applicable to anyone who is into motorbikes. It’s my opinion looking into the industry from the outside based on my business experience. My preference is for Harley’s but I’ve also owned a few other brands and I’ve owned countless motorcycles over 40 plus years.

So don’t let the Harley talk put you off – this is a Harley channel after all and Harley’s are like a religion so relax, put your feet up and sing along to the hymns. Just kidding - it’s going to be – the devils work!

You don’t need to upgrade and buy the newest bike.

If you buy a new bike  - You are not going to be a better rider and it’s highly unlikely you are going to have more fun unless you are going from something that’s a pain in the butt to something that’s great.

Manufacturers want you think that buying this years model is awesome and will make you a better person, get more chicks – become superman, whatever – it’s not true. So you probably don’t need to buy something if you already have a bike.

Of course the newer bikes ARE awesome – but so are the old ones. Do you really want to upgrade or are you bored. If you are bored and really want to spend money then think about engine upgrades, new paint or just go for a ride – to somewhere different.

I see people upgrade already awesome bikes - to something very similar – sometimes under finance which is even worse – just to get a slightly better stereo, new colours or slightly bigger engine?

Well, it’s your money and of course some people have money falling from the trees they have grown in the back yard -- so they can upgrade every twenty minutes or so. But that’s a minority of people.

The point is you will be fine on your bike. Even if it’s ten, twenty or thirty years old.

The dealer sells what they want not necessarily what YOU want.

A good sales person will solve your problem and they will do this in as genuine a way as possible. But there are 546 ways to skin a cat. If you want a Road King Special and they only have Street Glides in stock --- the salesman might just determine that your only problem is you don’t have a bike -- and bingo you now have a man’s bike! Go the Street Glide!

They might also upsell you – straight to a top of the line CVO touring bike. Do you really want that? Usually the more expensive bikes have a greater margin. As a cash amount anyway. They have an incentive to sell you this.

They might also sell you accessories, engine upgrades, insurance, clothes and let’s not forget finance. All these things – even they are small ticket items have a bigger or huge % markup.

This is not necessarily bad – you might like the things that they are selling. You might buy all those things anyway – but in the heat of the moment under the spell of a new bike and a professional sales person you might just walk out with more than you can afford.

The easiest way around this is to research before you go in. Know what you want and know how much you can get it for somewhere else – Before you go in.

Watch the video to discover the other 5 secrets that the motorcycle industry will never tell you and the bonus tips.
