Top 5 mistakes beginner Harley riders make in traffic

Beginner riders make a lot of dangerous mistakes lets discuss how to avoid them. It takes a lot more skill to ride a motorcycle than to drive a car.

Riding a motorcycle is also many more times dangerous. Join me as I ride my Harley Davidson Street Glide Special to Pakenham Bike Night and discuss the top 5 mistakes that beginner Harley riders make - and how to avoid them.

Motorcycles Can Be Daunting

Riding a motorcycle can be daunting for many people. You can be a beginner for a long time – it depends on your skill set. I also see a lot of Harley riders -- who take up riding again - in thie 50’s and 60’s after a multi decade riding layoff – so its like being a beginner again for many of them.

Everyone was a beginner at sometime – so personally I never criticize them.

I’ve been riding motorcycles for over 40 years and Harleys for over thirty – heres my take on mistakes that beginners make in traffic and what to do about them.

Here’s a preview of what’s in the video…

Mistake #1.

Riding at the same speed as the traffic or even worse slower than the traffic. I see that all the time – danger city – don’t do that…

Number #3

Number three is incorrect positioning. You want to be positioned in your lane where you can escape any potential hazards. So not trapped between big trucks.

Don’t ride in the middle of the lane – this is where oil collects from cars and trucks and it’s also the most difficult spot to manoeuvre around the car in front stay to left ore the right of the lane. Personally I like the right near the centre line the best. (just reverse this if you are on the other side of the world)

Number #5 Trusting That drivers will follow the rules.

Don’t make this fatal assumption. Other people might not see you – they might not have skill or competence to avoid you or to avoid a mistake…
