Harley Davidson 4 Hole Oil Change.

Let's talk about how to change the oil in your Harley Davidson motorcycle - anyone can do this without going to a mechanic. Everyone talks about a 3 hole oil change BUT it's the "often not talked about" 4th hole that gets people unstuck - put the wrong oil in this hole and it's a disaster.

Today, I’m tackling a Harley-Davidson four-hole oil change, not the usual three-hole job. The fourth hole is crucial, yet so many riders and even mechanics overlook it or use the wrong oil, which can be disastrous.

I’m using Harley’s Synth 3 oil today, but I’ve found that opinions on the best oil vary. As long as the oil meets Harley-Davidson’s specs, you should be good to go. I stick to well-known brands because I trust their additives.

Why should you service your bike yourself? It saves money, helps you get to know your motorcycle better, and gives you a sense of pride and satisfaction.

Even though I love working on my bike, I still take it to a mechanic or dealer now and then. It’s good to get an expert’s opinion and experience, even if it costs a bit more.

For this job, you’ll need some basic tools: a service manual, an oil filter wrench, various sockets, torque wrenches, and a funnel. I also recommend keeping records of everything for future reference.

I walk through the process for changing oil in the engine, primary drive, and transmission. This includes draining the old oil, replacing filters, and refilling with new oil.

The Fourth Hole Myth - Here’s where things get interesting - my “fourth hole” is a metaphor for diet. I’m talking about seed oils, which are often neglected but can be harmful to health, just like ignoring the fourth hole in your bike.

Seed oils like soybean and sunflower are bad for you. They can lead to inflammation and diseases, and are even worse than smoking or heavy drinking. I try to avoid them as much as possible.

Seed oils were once used industrially for lubrication and soap. Now they’re in everything we eat, and it seems like a clever way to offload a cheap byproduct.

Remember, your health is more important than your Harley. By taking care of yourself and avoiding harmful oils, you’ll be able to ride your bike longer and enjoy life more. Stay safe and ride hard!
